Rescues… Retires… Rehomes!
Our gang lives a wonderful life here with us, but it is our greatest honor to find them smaller families to be a part of when their journey with us is complete!
Do you know how in big families, there’s always one kid that’s not getting the attention it needs at that moment? And while those parents mean well, it’s just simply too many tasks to focus on individually. We want our guys and gals to experience the small family dynamic.
Retirement is that opportunity!
There is often a negative stigma around retiring breeding dogs, that I find truly baffling. From a simple standpoint of volume, it would be impossible for a lifetime committed breeder to house every breeding dog long-term while also being respectful to that breeding dog.
My degree is in animal sciences, and I base most of my decisions for the dogs from a medical standpoint. An intact female breeding dog is exposed to a barrage of hormones each heat cycle. Her vulva and mammaries swell regardless of if she’s actually bred or not, her body readies itself for a litter for the full “pregnancy term”, continuing the influx of hormones. Each sustained heat cycle increases the risk of mammary cancers by 5%. Mammary cancers almost always are metastatic to the lungs, and since they start as little bumps that are often missed, they will in inevitably shorten a female’s life span. It is always our goal to breed our ladies for 2-3 litters and then spay them to reduce the continued risk of mammary cancers. Our gals are spayed and retired by age 3-4, and our fellas around 5.
It doesn’t take long to see that breeding is not a hobby I simply dabble in, but rather a life path that I have invested my blood sweat, and tears into. I aim to be at the top of the game by taking classes in genetics, consulting specialists for joints, testing for hereditary conditions, feeding specialized diets, and keeping current with the ever-changing world of husbandry. We love our brood, and while it’s always so sad to part with them, it’s easier knowing they will know the one-on-one love of a small family dynamic.
On top of that, we feel very strongly that rescue & breeding should hold hands. Aside from our contract which requires our puppies to be returned to us in the event of a crisis, we often take in rescued & relinquished pets in order to “rehab” them to all their glory & find their family. Along our journeys, we routinely meet families that prefer an adult companion to avoid the puppy stage, and this often works out perfectly!
If an adult companion is what you need, please contact us to see what our current rescue/retiree/rehab list looks like!
What do they include & what’s the fee?
Our adoption fees for adults range between $200-$2000 depending on age, what’s included, breed, & size.
Our rescues & retirees (when age appropriate) will be current on vaccines, spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, and current on interceptor plus/bravecto. We work with a fantastic team of veterinarians and are so grateful to have many wonderful vets that believe in us and what we stand for in the pet community! ❤
